Masoor Ki Daal # 1 (Orange colored lentils)

Ingredients

Ingredients Group 1

Oil 1/2 a cup or as desired
Masoor Daal 1 Cup
Water 4 Cups
Green Chilli(es) 2 (Sliced Fine)
Onions 1/2 (Sliced Finely)
Tomatoes 2 (Cut in cubes)
Coriander/Cilantaro A handful, washed and chopped up
Turmeric Powder 1/4 tsp. or a pinch
Paprika 1-2 tsp
Amchur Powder 1-2 tsp
Cumin Powder 1/2 Flat tsp
Garam Masala - Whole As given in description
Coriander/Cilantaro 1/2 Flat tsp
Salt 2 tsp
Garlic 1 tsp. (Paste)
Garam Masala - Powder 1/2 Flat tsp
Ginger 1 tsp. (Paste)


Ingredients Group 2

Onions 1/2 (Sliced Finely)
Oil 1/2 a cup or as desired

Preparation

Method for Ingredients Group 1

1 Heat oil in a deep pot and add half the onion
2 Fry till golden brown
3 Add garam masala whole and stir well
4 Add the green chillies and mix well
5 Stir in the tomatoes and keep cooking till they become mushy
6 Add ginger, garlic and all the other spices and mix well
7 Add daal and cook for 1-2 minutes with the spices
8 Add water, cover and let it cook for 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes
9 15 minutes before it's done, start preparing Turka

Method for Ingredients Group 2

1 Simplest way to prepare Turka for daal is to heat oil and add onons
2 Fry till they become dark brown
3 Should be done in 10 minutes or so
4 Let this stay on top of the stove on warm or minimum heat
5 Once the daal is done, add this as a garnish on top. It will make the daal sizzle which is fine
6 You can also add coriander/cilantaro for garnishing purpose
7 Serve hot with raita and rice or bread
