1 cup kaali masoor (black gram beans)
1 tbsp garlic paste
2 tbsp ginger paste
2 tomotoes chopped
1 tsp salt
1-2 tsp red chilli powder
1/2 tsp haldi/tumeric
1 tsp zeera powder
1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 tsp garam masala
2 tsp coriander powder
1 tsp cumin seeds (for tarka/tempering)
3-4 sliced garlic cloves (for tarka/tempering)
3-4 green chillies (for tarka/tempering)
cilantro leaves to garnish
1. Wash the dal in several changes of water and soak dal for half an hour.
2. In a pressure cooker add the dal,salt,haldi,garlic paste, tomato, red chilli powder and 3 cups water and cook for at least 15 mins. If not using a pressure cooker than cook for 2-3 hours
3. When it is half cooked add ginger paste, garam masala, black pepper and zeera powder and cook till the desired consistency.
4. for tarka (tempering), add sliced garlic cloves, cumin and green chillies in oil and add to the daal.
5. Serve with rice.
